Calliope Desderata was born in ancient Ireland in 1100 AD. Her parents were both of the Druid faith and were persecuted by Christians. They were burned at the stake as witches and Calliope then a child was taken in to be raised by the local blacksmith and his wife who were childless. She grew up to be a beautiful young woman but some of the villagers always looked at her with caution. The blacksmith and his wife had never explained to her about her parents. Eventually an old village woman told her the truth and Calliope was shocked and angry. She ran away and wandered far penniless and hungry. As she was walking one day a carriage pulled up beside her and a woman leaned out. "Where are you going young lady, you look hungry and tired. Come get in I will give you a ride". At first Calliope refused and then relented and climbed inside. The coach door closed omniously and raced away into the approaching dusk. The woman smiled at her and almost vicious smile and Calliope grew frightened. The carriage pulled up in front of a Manor House and stopped.

The woman grasped Calliope's hand firmly and drew her out of the carriage and into the house. There a clan of vampires lived and one smiled before coming over to her. He was Andreas Tanis one of the vampire clan of Viktor. Calliope is bitten and dies then rises again as a vampire.

Andreas thinks to make her one of his brides but Calliope has other ideas. Once she learns what she is capable of, Calliope sets out from the Manor and returns in the night to her village. There she takes her vengeance upon the people who killed her parents. The village priest, the blacksmith and a few others survive and manage to trick Calliope into chasing them into a tomb. Once inside, the priest attacks her with fire and sacrifices himself as the others seal the two into together. Effectively, Calliope is entombed and remains there for 900 years.

900 years later the tomb is discovered and excavated. Calliope has by now succumbed to hunger but yet being undead, could not truly die. Believing that they have found a mummy the body of Calliope is taken to the local museum for study. One of the museum employees cuts himself badly and a quantity of blood lands on her. Calliope awakens and though weakened attacks the bleeding employee and feeds. Now stronger Calliope looks around at the wondrous world she seems to be in and disappears out the window into the night. She becomes a terror of the area feeding and disappearing, a shadow of destruction. Finally she discovers another like herself a woman named Merona. Merona tells Calliope that modern vampires are different and that she can not feed indiscriminately nor cause destruction. To do so endangers all of her kind.

Merona knows of Vampire Elder Krill and decides Calliope would be better for her to go to his coven in America. She travels by boat to America and Calliope presents herself to Vampire Elder Krill.
